Want to dip your toe in the sewing pool? Then this is the class for you! Learn how to create a useful and stylish Tote bag that is ideal for every day. Upcycle your old favourite pair of jeans, a skirt or even a preloved coat, or start afresh with new material. Participants will need to bring a sewing machine but friends can share one. Suitable for beginners who can sew a straight line on a machine and over 14 years old. This will a unique opportunity to learn a new skill or refresh your knowledge in a friendly workshop environment.
Facilitated by Oren Little and Saidhbhín Gibson.
What you will need to attend the sewing class.
- Sewing machine with thread and bobbin with colour matching your material. We recommend Gutermann thread as it is the strongest.
- Sharp scissors.
- Ruler and tailors chalk.
- Sewing needle and pins.
- Material to make the Tote bag. This can be an old jeans, a jacket or new material. Curtain material is ideal also. It just needs to be strong enough to hold items when it is a bag. Jumpers won’t work as the material is too soft. If in doubt bring along a few things and we can help you choose. Straps will be made out of the same material. Again bring options and we can help you decide. The material needs to be about 1/2 metre.
- Material for the lining. Fun and colourful and does not need to be heavy - a pillowcase type material, about 1/2 metre too.
