JUNE 12 - AUGUST 29
Glasgow born Charles Sandison is acknowledged as one of the greatest exponents of computer art. The artist himself dislikes being tagged and it is obvious that his practice is informed by an appreciation of other media forms. He was motivated to study art by his love of painting. His enduring admiration for Monet inspired his installation projection Sandison/Monet at Musée d'Orsay, Paris. His computer projection installations generally focus on word opposites, as in Good and Evil, in the former chapel of the Presentation Covent at Éigse 1995.
Sandison uses the modern medium of the computer to generate what he describes as "a fantastic array of variations in the mind of the reader/listener. From a distance the words are perceived as moving objects; upon closer inspection they are recognisable as text. The viewer is immersed within an installation...this is an attempt to deliver a tangible experience using immaterial matter"
This exhibition will open to the public after the Éigse official opening on the 11 June.
