Here at VISUAL Carlow, we are passionate about the value that the arts bring to individuals and to communities.

We are committed to making the work here accessible to our many audiences and communities and to removing social, economic and physical barriers to participating. We believe that the arts have a vital role to play in the region - culturally, socially and economically. Art enriches lives, opens the doors to imagination and allows for expression and appreciation of many different voices. We programme activities and events across a wide range of disciplines, for young and old, throughout the year. Education Partnerships

We partner with a number of different Education bodies, including the Institute of Technology, Carlow, Carlow College and Carlow Education and Training Board, across activities including work placements, indepth artistic and research projects, conferences and symposia. We also facilitate workshops and classes for students in the theatre and galleries when the building is closed to the public.

ENGAGE: Galleries

We aim to develop understanding and awareness of the value, meaning and relevance of the arts in new audiences, and to more deeply engage existing audiences in the themes and conversations of the exhibition seasons. We do this through having a space within the gallery for exploring the exhibition subject in more detail, and by developing specific projects with local groups and organisations.

In recent years, we have developed workshops, exhibitions and events with groups including Carlow Women's Network, Carlow Integration Forum, Carlow Photographic Society, Carlow Library, Barrow Valley Painters, Carlow Care and Repair Older Age Group, Blueprint Artists, Carlow Writers Co-op, and the Latvian and Rohyngian Communities.

ENGAGE: Theatre

We aim to support local theatre and performance practice both in amateur and professional contexts through existing resources. Where possible, we offer benefit-in-kind support to professional practitioners, to community groups and to local organisations who are engaged in developing new work or events. This is always dependent on available time and space. In recent years we have worked with Make Do and Mend Theatre, Carlow Little Theatre, Carlow Arts Festival, Carlow African Film Festival and Glor Ceatharlach, along with individual performers from the region.
